Testing and integrating a software solution into a legacy environment

The customer, a german government agency, had a software solution developed, which generates PDF documents virtually from mainframe data. Initially, it was written in Java 4, but my colleagues managed to upgrade to Java 6. My task was to travel to the customer and integrate the solution within three weeks time into an IBM Websphere server and make sure everything works as intended.

I manged to do so. I had no internet, social contact, sunlight or fun.

Challenges 🔗

  • No remote work possible
  • No internet available on site
  • Legacy stack (not to say ancient)
  • I had never seen the code before
  • I only received a short briefing by one of my colleagues
  • I don’t want to talk about this project anymore…

My Contributions 🔗

  • Integrated a software solution into a legacy environment
